Beck Institute initiative for mental health professionals who help soldiers with psychological problems

Drs. Aaron and Judith Beck conduct Cognitive Behavior Therapy training for professionals at Beck Institute.

Mental health professionals who treat soldiers require state-of-the-art training in effective treatments for depression, suicidality, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, anger, and personality disorders. Because of a shortage of professionals who have received this training, the number of American soldiers who are suffering — and in some cases taking their own lives — during and after deployment is rising.

To reverse this trend and save our heroes’ lives, the internationally renowned Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research has begun a scholarship initiative to increase the number of mental health professionals trained to provide effective treatment to soldiers. Please visit our Training & Scholarships page for information about Beck Institute professional training programs and how to apply for a partial scholarship for the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Workshops at Beck Institute.

Established in 1994, Beck Institute has trained thousands of military and civilian mental health professionals in Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Cognitive Behavior Therapy stands apart from other forms of psychotherapy as a short-term, common-sense approach, demonstrated in several hundred research studies to be effective in treating depression, post-traumatic stress, and other serious problems that can lead to suicide.

Some facts about soldier suicide

See why Beck Institute is dedicated to preventing soldier suicide.

Many soldiers suffer from depression, nightmares, flashbacks, post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, and other serious problems.

These problems affect them during and after deployment for months and, in many cases, for years.

Many do not get the appropriate help and some take their own lives.

These problems can be effectively treated by mental health professionals trained in research-based Cognitive Behavior Therapy.
